Congressional Malaria & NTD Caucus Briefing – Washington DC
In the US, the Obama Administration releases its 2011 budget asking Congress to approve
$155M for the treatment of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), a $90M increase over 2010. 
DNDi and MSF are calling for the inclusion of deadly NTDs, such as HAT, VL, and Chagas
disease and to include R&D for urgently needed new tools like drugs to replace outdated,
toxic, expensive, and ineffective tools. On February 22nd, DNDi, MSF, and RTI hold a briefing
on Capitol Hill to inform policymakers of this deadly neglect and the opportunities to save
the lives of neglected people suffering from these diseases.

COHRED & NEPAD Meeting: Strengthening Pharmaceutical
Innovation in Africa – Pretoria, South Africa

The meeting addressed the problems and challenges faced by African countries in
their quest to increase access to medicines and research for innovative products,
and to stimulate production of medicines in Africa. DNDi presented the background
need for strengthened regulatory capacity in Africa in the Plenary session, as well
as hold a Regulatory workshop. DNDi and the George Institute took the advantage
of this meeting to launch their joint report: "Registering New Drugs: The African context".
