Organizational Description

In 2007, Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative North America was established in New York to support the research and development of new drugs for poverty related, neglected diseases.  This US-based charity is focused on raising significant public and private funding to support the global activities of DNDi, an independent, not-for-profit drug development initiative established in 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland by five public-sector research organizations – Kenya Medical Research Institute, Indian Council of Medical Research, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation Brazil, Malaysian Ministry of Health, and France’s Institut Pasteur – and an international humanitarian organisation, Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières.

DNDi aims to develop new, improved and field-relevant drugs for neglected diseases such as malaria, leishmaniasis, human African trypanosomiasis, and Chagas disease that afflict the very poor in developing countries.
