Overview of DNDi

Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for Neglected Diseases.

DNDi is working on the following diseases: Leishmaniasis Sleeping Sickness (human African trypanosomiasis HAT) Chagas disease Malaria In 2011, DNDi started taking on specific projects for two new disease areas: Paediatric HIV Helminth infections (and more specifically filarial diseases)

Working in partnership with private industry, public institutions, academia and NGOs, DNDi has built the largest ever R&D portfolio for the kinetoplastid diseases and has currently underway five projects in Implementation stage, seven in the clinical, and seven in the pre-clinical. To date, DNDi has successfully delivered 2 antimalarial treatments: ASAQ in 2007 and ASMQ in 2008 respectively 1 new treatment against Sleeping Sickness: NECT in 2009 1 new treatment against Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL): SSG&PM in 2010 a set of treatments for VL in Asia in 2011 a paediatric dosage form of benznidazole for Chagas disease in 2011

DNDi initiates and coordinates drug R&D projects in collaboration with the international research community the public sector the pharmaceutical industry and other relevant partners. DNDi is also working to strengthen existing capacities in disease-endemic countries.
