Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for Neglected Diseases (www.dndi.org)

The DNDi NTD initiative is dedicated to the clinical development and access plans for the 5 following Neglected Tropical Disease areas: human African trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, filarial diseases, and mycetoma. The initiative is responsible for designing the strategy, conducting and reporting the research, as well as ensuring resources and managing budget from phase 1b/proof of concept up until policy change. The team is equally based in Geneva office as well as well as in our offices located in Africa, Asia, and South America.

 

Purpose of the position

This position is responsible for supporting the development of access plan strategies for the products developed by the NTD disease teams. Together with disease teams, the NTD Access Leader will coordinate the access activities included in each disease area of the Action Plan. Across the NTD disease portfolios and regions this position will stream-line the access approach and work with the teams to develop access tools for a more systematic and comprehensive approach to access across the organization. The position also aims at providing immediate/on-going coordination and leadership in relevant areas to ensure the success of access for the NTD Initiative.

 

Specific job responsibilities

  • Provide leadership on access matters and facilitate creation and implementation of NTD access strategy
  • Develops methodology and tools to develop access plan strategies, i.e forecast assessment, pharmaco-economics, social sciences
  • Support the development of an access plan strategy for each NTD (aligned with business plan)
  • Develops tools to measure impact of access strategies
  • Contribute shaping organizational set up to connect the dots between various teams/components as related to access
  • Coordinate the access activities included in each disease area Action Plan.
  • Provide guidance and support to the diseases teams to ensure effective delivery of specific objectives
  • Represent DNDi in access-related matters discussions and forums as appropriate (internal & external)
  • Contribute to understand the treatments access landscape & role of stakeholders to strengthen their collaboration with DNDi in encouraging the uptake by countries of affordable treatments
  • Contribute to enriching or developing an adequate environment for Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) to join key policy discussions related to access and other policy issues with governments
  • Monitor and built/share intelligence on policy developments and civil society discussions
  • Integrate access issue related to the NTD drug development programmes, drug registration and treatment uptake, including working with industrial partners, national health, authorities and global health organization such as the WHO, and others to effect registration and procurement of treatment in collaboration with DNDi internal teams
  • In coordination with DNDi regional offices, identify areas for collaboration with regional stakeholders and Civil Society Organizations toward removing obstacles to NTD treatments
  • Lay the groundwork for innovative advocacy
  • Monitor the international NTD’s treatment access landscape and keep members of the DNDi NTD team informed
  • Obtain insights into NTD’s issues in DNDi’s priority countries for treatment registration
  • Coordinate preparation of the NTDs access plan to be presented twice a year to the DNDi access review committee
  • Collaborate with other DNDi colleagues working on access (HIV/HCV)

Experience

  • Over 8 years in Senior role in Access
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and matrix structure
  • Experience of working in public and private sector is highly desirable
  • Expertise in understanding of the global landscape of PDPs; common access barriers and solutions; programme implementation; supply chain mapping; drug quantification and tendering practices

Education

  • Advanced post graduate degree or graduate degree with equivalent in experience to reach Master level

Other requirements

  • Fluency in English
  • Proficiency in local languages desirable
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Suite

  • S/he reports to the NTD Director
  • Specify any contributing manager: BD Director
