Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for Neglected Diseases (www.dndi.orgwww.dndi.org)
DNDi focuses on discovering and developing treatments for sleeping sickness (human African trypanosomiasis), Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, filarial infections, paediatric HIV, mycetoma, and hepatitis C. In 2016, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, DNDi launched the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership, a not-for-profit research and development organization to develop new antibiotic treatments addressing antimicrobial resistance and to promote their responsible use for optimal conservation, while ensuring equitable access for all.
Since its inception, DNDi has developed seven new treatments for neglected patients for malaria, sleeping sickness, visceral leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, paediatric HIV with several new drug candidates in the R&D pipeline including two for sleeping sickness. Our objective is to deliver 16 to 18 new treatments by 2023, ensure equitable access to these treatments, and build a robust pipeline of new drug candidates
After 13 years of sustained growth, DNDi has built a team of approximately 200 full-time employees working across nine offices (Geneva, Rio de Janeiro, Kinshasa, Nairobi, New Delhi and Patna (India), Kuala Lumpur, New York and Tokyo).
In 2008, DNDi opened an affiliate office in New York City to serve as the headquarters for DNDi North America. A registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, DNDi North America works to strengthen and expand scientific, policy advocacy, partner development, communications, and , fundraising efforts in the region to enhance DNDi’s global impact. The office operates under the direction of the DNDi North America Board of Directors.
Purpose of the position
The Senior HR Officer is a part time position which supports the DNDi North America office in meeting its human resource needs. The position requires an independent self-starter, eager to undertake a broad range of HR responsibilities in collaboration with a small team of individuals committed to medical innovation and access to medicines issues in developing countries.
The Senior HR Officer will take ownership and responsibilities for all HR related topics and act as primary point of contact for all HR activities and employee inquiries at DNDi North America.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Oversee all HR related day to day operations and associated responsibilities
- Make recommendations and update standards and HR policies in accordance with DNDi’s global HR framework and U.S. labor and employment law
- Assist locally hired staff and close consultants in understanding HR policies and procedures, and provide customized assistance
- Ensure all HR related tools, mechanisms, and processes are in place
- Participate as an active member of the Global HR team; provide input to meetings, discussions, and liaise with colleagues in DNDi Regional Offices regarding HR issues
- Oversee all HR processes for NA employees: Selection and Recruitment, Welcome, Onboarding, Performance management and End of contracts.
- Act as the focal point for employee trainings and/or professional development needs
- Manage, update and maintain employees and consultants’ database, ensure that all employees and consultants’ contracts and personnel files are valid and up to date
- Support teams in the development of new employee job descriptions and consultant Terms of Reference, and ensure updates and alignment with DNDi’s policies
- Oversee annual renewal of insurance policies
- Perform assessments to ensure that remuneration/benefits packages are coherent and aligned with U.S.//international markets and with DNDi’s policies and U.S. labor/employment regulations
- Prepare the semi-monthly payroll report with assistance from the external payroll services provider
- Perform HR administrative and clerical function (e.g., contracts, holidays, general work permit issues, benefits administration etc.) and ensure effectiveness and accuracy in implementation and execution
- Assist in the dissemination and implementation of Global HR administrative policies and procedures
- Ensure that DNDi North America follows all necessary local, state, and federal regulations
- Provide support on ad hoc HR tasks and/or projects of a global scope
- Participate actively in the consolidation and development of the Global HR framework
- The Senior HR Officer reports (hierarchically) to the Regional Executive Director of DNDi North America with a functional reporting line to the Head of Human Resources in Geneva, Switzerland.
- The Senior HR Officer works closely with the DNDi North America team and members of the HR team based in Geneva. The Senior HR Officer will have regular contacts with external vendors and service providers, especially in regard to payroll processing and benefits administration

- Minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience on a similar position within a Human Resources department, ideally within a U.S. non-profit organization and/or international non-governmental organization (NGO)
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and matrix structure
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proven ability to produce high quality work under tight deadlines, while simultaneously managing multiple projects
- Ability to work independently and be flexible, with keen attention to detail
- Genuine commitment to poverty-related global health, scientific research, medical innovation, or access to medicines issues in developing countries strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in human resources or any related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Fluent written and spoken English required, Spanish or French a plus
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Suite
- Salesforce experience a plus
- Status: Part time – 50%
