Established in 2003 Drugs for neglected diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for Neglected Diseases.

After 15 years of sustained growth, DNDi has built a team of approximately 240 employees working across nine offices (Geneva, Rio de Janeiro, Kinshasa, Nairobi, New Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, New York, Tokyo, and Cape Town).

The DNDi Latin America office was opened in 2004. With the primary aim to support regional R&D activities for Chagas disease and leishmaniasis, along with activities in hepatitis C, the Latin American office also undertakes advocacy and communications activities to increase neglected diseases awareness in the region. It also leads capacity building projects through multi-country research platforms.  

 

Purpose of the position

In collaboration with Communications Coordinator in Rio and digital communications colleagues from the Global Communications team, the Digital Communications Officer is responsible for managing and monitoring Latin America social media channels and website, and  implementing and adjusting the digital communications strategy for DNDi Latin America, aligned with the communications annual plan and with the global social media strategy.

 

Specific job responsibilities

Channel management

Social media
  • Manage the daily operations of social media channels led by DNDi Latin America, including the editorial calendar and sourcing, producing, adapting, disseminating content aligned with the messages and priorities of DNDi Latin America Communications team
  • Collaborate with the global Communications team to ensure global channels deliver for the region
  • Plan and manage campaigns targeting key audiences in the region
  • Identify needs and opportunities to communicate relevant and engaging content to regional audiences
  • Responsible for community management on Latin America managed channels and support community management on global channels as required
  • Follow and engage with influencers in the region to maximise reach and engagement with DNDi’s content
Website
  • Keep website content updated with the support of Corporate Communications Officer and other communications colleagues
  • Content for website according to best practices for SEO
  • Ensure regional website is aligned with global website and corporate guidelines
  • Provide regional content/information to global website as needed
Email communications
  • Manage the DNDi Latin America leads database, including lead generation, and management strategy
  • Liaise with other regional staff to identify needs and opportunities for stakeholder engagement through email communications
  • Develop audience journeys to increase relevance of DNDi’s email communications to stakeholders and key audiences in the region
  • Develop a test and learn approach to email communications in order to increase performance
  • Commission content and manage tools used to record data and send emails

Digital content

  • In liaison with Communications colleagues, suggest and/or produce content on a regular basis to feed all digital channels in line with agreed messages and priorities
  • Commission/outsource content when needed, particularly for larger Communications projects, in collaboration with Corporate Communications Officer when needed
  • Follow and champion global content production guidelines
  • Manage sign off of content for digital channels with relevant stakeholders
  • Identify relevant content by third-party that can be shared by DNDi

Monitoring and reporting

  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting of regional digital channels and region-specific initiatives
  • Share learning with Latin America and global teams through regular reports or other appropriate means on a regular basis
  • Champion a culture of testing and learning and provide evidence to support management in decision-making

Digital communications strategy

  • Implement the digital communications strategy for DNDi Latin America
  • Update and adjust the Latin America digital communications strategy based on evidence and learning in order to maximize reach and engagement
  • Collaborate with global digital team in updating global social media strategy, as needed
  • Collaborate in the management of digital channels lead by global teams to maximize their potential to build audiences and engagement in the region and achieve DNDi Latin America objectives
  • Stay abreast of digital trends and learn from other experts and organizations

Project management

  • Manages digital communications projects in DNDi Latin America office as needed
  • When outsourcing digital communications work, manages all aspects of relationship with service provider

Additional/specific/projects responsibilities

  • Contribute to global digital projects as appropriate/needed, including trialing/piloting new digital tools adopted at global level
  • DNDi Latin America office focal point for Digital Asset Management system, undertaking and providing training as needed and holding team accountable for best use of tool
  • Provide general support to Communications team as needed

 

Reporting line

  • S/he reports to Latina America Communications Coordinator

Interactions

  • While part of the Communications team in Rio de Janeiro, the Digital Communications Officer is also a member of the Global Digital team, with a functional line to the Digital Communications Manager in Geneva
  • Collaborators, counterparts, and service providers are mainly in the functional area in and outside DNDi to get information, guidance, and feedback or to enlist cooperation. He/she has an external role focusing on exchanges on information and work with suppliers or officer level staff of partners and donors

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with analytics tools such as google analytics, Facebook insights, sprout social, etc.
  • Understanding of digital metrics and ability translate analysis into learning and best practice
  • Very good knowledge of WordPress and social media channels

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with graduate degree, at least one year with post graduate degree
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and matrix structure
  • Experience of working in public and private sector is highly desirable

Education

  • Graduate or post graduate degree

Other requirements

  • Native proficiency in Portuguese
  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in Spanish desirable
