Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for Neglected Diseases (www.dndi.org)

The External Affair Departments aims to design, implement, and evaluate Policy Advocacy, Communications, and Fundraising strategies for DNDi and participate in major efforts in all three areas appropriate for her/his level, and to support alignment between DNDi and GARDP on these areas. The global team has 35 members, the majority in Geneva, but also in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Nairobi, India, Malaysia, and Japan.

The Communications team ensures wide, timely, and strategic dissemination of information on DNDi and research in the field of neglected diseases, viral diseases including HIV HCV. Target audiences include national and international political leaders; the scientific community; the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries; donor countries and organizations; civil society organizations; and the media.

 

Purpose of the mission

The Digital Communications Officer will support DNDi’s digital communications. The responsibilities will include a range of tasks focused on creating, editing, disseminating, and reporting on performance of content on various digital communications channels and managing interactions with DNDi’s digital community. The daily work of the Digital Communications Officer will involve updating and improving two sets of digital channels to reach different audiences: the DNDi websites and the DNDi social media channels.

 

Specific job responsibilities

Websites (40%)

  • Keep the dndi.org website updated with content appropriately formatted according to web best practices for audience engagement and search engine optimization by:
    • Sourcing, formatting, and uploading texts, images, graphics, maps, videos, and documents
    • Working closely with Communications team members to ensure information is up-to-date and Communications team outputs are appropriately disseminated
    • Adjusting layout and navigation
    • Proposing improvements
    • Correcting glitches (e.g. broken links, mobile compatibility issues)
  • Assist with improving and updating the content of other DNDi websites as needed
  • Provide Communications team members with training and advice on updating website content
  • Produce guideline documents to ensure streamlined and consistent presentation of website content
  • Maintain domain registrations and interface with service providers for web support services, as required
  • Produce regular key performance indicators and ad-hoc reports on website usage including visitor behaviour to measure website impact and audience engagement, identify successful strategies for replication, and suggest immediate changes to the websites and changes for the web strategy that can improve performance

Social media (40%)

  • Plan, prepare, schedule, and disseminate content on social media channels by sourcing content, drafting texts, selecting and preparing images, assisting with photography/filming, and developing strategies to reach appropriate audiences
  • Work closely with Communications team members to ensure social media activity is in accordance with communications objectives and that Communications outputs are effectively disseminated on social media
  • Plan and implement social media campaigns targeting key audiences
  • Propose ideas and proactively identify social media engagement and sharing opportunities
  • Follow and engage with online influencers
  • Handle community management, including responding to messages received on social media channels and coordinating with team members for their input as needed
  • Monitor digital channels for messages that could impact DNDi’s reputation or activities
  • Collaborate with other digital team members to coordinate the editorial calendar and streamline the production and dissemination of content
  • Produce ad-hoc and regular social media key performance indicator reporting to identify and implement strategies that improve audience engagement and reach
  • Contribute to social media training, guideline documentation, and advising of staff professional social media use

Newsletters and mass mailings

  • Insert and style the DNDi e-newsletter content and other mass email communications
  • Support regional office Communications team members in their use of the mailing dissemination system with help on the use templates, formatting, and targeted list creation
  • Analyze the impact of mailings, using the dissemination system’s tools and website traffic analytics, and generate regular reports identifying factors that could improve the E-news and other mass mailings
  • Other digital or print dissemination tasks as needed

Multimedia database

  • Support the global team’s use of photo and video libraries by uploading, tagging, and organizing files in online databases and DNDi network drives
  • Sourcing and organizing multimedia materials from the global communications team, as required

Other general tasks

  • Monitor digital trends and learn from other experts and organizations
  • Assist Communications team and wider DNDi team in research and sourcing of information or sources as required
  • Assist in answering of email queries and support other digital dissemination tasks as required
  • Support the Digital Communications Manager and Communications team with other tasks as required

  • Knowledge of digital analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and social media reporting tools

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with graduate degree, at least one year with post graduate degree
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and matrix structure
  • Experience of working in public and private sector is highly desirable

Education

  • Graduate or post graduate degree

Other requirements

  • Fluency in English
  • Proficiency in local language desirable
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Suite

 

Reporting line

  • S/he reports to the Digital Communications Manager, but will also engage in work managed by other members of the Communications team as appropriate
