Established in 2003 Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for Neglected Diseases.

After 15 years of sustained growth, DNDi has built a team of approximately 240 employees working across nine offices (Geneva, Rio de Janeiro, Kinshasa, Nairobi, New Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, New York, Tokyo, and Cape Town).

Opened in 2004, the DNDi office in India supports the implementation of R&D projects on visceral leishmaniasis, along with activities on hepatitis C, filariasis, paediatric HIV, and antimicrobial resistance. The office also works closely on raising awareness and advocating for increased public responsibility and a more enabling environment for R&D for neglected diseases and neglected patients. 

 

Purpose of the position

The Finance and Administration officer plays an important role in ensuring smooth functioning of routine accounting, bill processing, cash and bank disbursement, and other related finance and administration activities in a timely manner. Responsible for ensuring timely processing of payment to vendors.

 

Specific job responsibilities

Accountancy 80%

  • Make entries in Navision and Tally, respecting projects code, accounting codes, and accounting guidelines in DNDi India Liaison office and DNDi India Foundation
  • Assist the Senior Finance and Administration Officer in the monthly closing tasks
  • Upload payments on bank portals and make cash payment according to DNDi’s financial policies before due date.
  • Liaise with DNDi Geneva for accounting related queries
  • Assist the Senior Finance and Administration Officer for yearly revision of the Indian accountancy ensuring coherence with Navision
  • Manage cash and bank, prepare cash reconciliation on weekly basis and bank reconciliation on monthly basis
  • Assist the Senior Finance and Administration Officer to prepare year-end accounts closing activity
  • Support in making cash request from Head office under the supervision of the Senior Finance and Administration Officer
  • Manage advance accounts of office staff
  • Manage vendors accounts reconciliation
  • Manage payroll and send salary slip to all employee every month
  • Assist in budget process
  • Maintain assets records and register
  • Submission of tax liability and provident fund at the end of the month in the bank with the help of the Senior Finance and Administration Officer
  • Other ad-hoc task that will be requested by the Senior Finance and Administration Officer and other senior members of the India and Geneva team

Administration 20%

  • Ensure timely payment of monthly utility bills (e.g. telephone, mobile, electricity, water, internet etc.)
  • Maintain files for Annual Maintenance Contract
  • Assist the Senior Finance and Administration officer/Head of Operations in local procurement

 

Reporting line

  • S/he reports to Senior Finance and Administration Officer in New Delhi with dotted line reporting to the Finance Officer in Geneva

Interactions

  • Close working relationship with relevant members of the DNDi India and Geneva office.
  • With service providers mainly in the functional area in and outside DNDi
  • Finance team DNDi Geneva

 

Job requirements

Skills, attributes, and experience

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in International non profit organization as part of finance team
  • Sound knowledge of accountancy with attention to details
  • Skills in using spreadsheets and accounting software
  • Maintain confidentiality with the financial documents
  • Ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure tom meet deadlines
  • Clear and systematic thinking that demonstrate good judgement and problem-solving competencies
  • Good communication skills in both English and local language
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-cultural team
  • Well organised and structured
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to supervise an intern or apprentice

Education

  • Graduate degree in accounts
  • CA Inter (desired)

Work location

  • DNDi India, New Delhi office

Travel required

  • Travel within India, Asia regional countries, and Head office, Geneva

Employment

  • Core staff, fixed term of 2 years renewable
  • Probation period 3 months
