The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for neglected diseases.

The DNDi NTD Initiative is dedicated to the clinical development and access plans for the 5 following neglected tropical disease areas: human African trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, filarial diseases, and mycetoma. The initiative is responsible for designing the strategy, conducting and reporting the research, as well as ensuring resources and managing budget from phase 1b/proof of concept up until policy change. The team is equally based in the Geneva office as well as well as in our offices located in Africa, Asia, and South America.


Purpose of the position

The Intern – Data and Research will be responsible for researching, analyzing and synthesizing information on the healthcare market for neglected tropical diseases. We are looking for a data person to help us make sense of vast amounts of data to inform our decision-making process.

Your primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, running statistical analysis, and building high quality machine learning models. You will develop industry overviews, financial analyses and other knowledge products, and transform the findings of this research into fact packs, presentations, and reports to develop the organization’s internal knowledge base around market access. This will include market intelligence databases and market reports that give visibility into market forecast, manufacturing and pricing trends, registration and procurement trends, and other relevant areas of interest.


Specific job responsibilities

  • Conduct primary research (phone and in-person) with industry stakeholders, regulators, key opinion leaders, and implementers to contextualize data and form insights
  • Build robust market models and databases based on data collected through primary research. This will include developing top-down and bottom-up forecasting models for key therapeutics and diagnostics
  • Co-author comprehensive market research reports to describe market trends and forecast future market behavior
  • Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis, dashboards, and user interfaces
  • Continuous market monitoring and support the composition of industry journal articles regarding emerging/growing industry trends
  • Maintain project timeline and ensure report quality

  • S/he reports to the Head of Access


Job requirements

Skills and attributes

  • Ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills in multicultural, multi-lingual environments
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural team
  • Lead and motivate a team for optimum performance, supervising junior staff

Technical skills

  • Market research and analysis
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Suite (including VBA)
  • Very good knowledge of programming languages (Python, R, Java – Other knowledge such as Apache Spark or Hadoop is beneficial)
  • Experience with unstructured data
  • Feature engineering
  • Proficiency in database applications such as SQL or Access
  • Strong analytic and quantitative experience. An advanced knowledge of Machine Learning and AI model building concepts a plus


  • Experience working with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, TIBCO Spotfire
  • Healthcare, pharmaceutical and/or business analytics experience is a plus
  • Business acumen


  • Bachelor Degree, preferably with a focus in data sciences, statistics, finance, economics, or equivalent

Other requirements

  • Proficiency in local languages
  • Good Knowledge of Microsoft Suite
